No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a large protest in Kolkata on Tuesday against the attack on opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari in Cooch Behar. BJP workers blocked VIP Road and Ultadanga Connector, burning tyres and raising slogans against the state government. The protest disrupted traffic significantly in the area. Several protesters lay down on the road as a form of demonstration.
During the protest, scuffles broke out between police personnel and BJP activists. The police were present in large numbers, but the situation led to pushing and shoving between both sides. The BJP accused the state government of orchestrating the attack on Suvendu Adhikari in a planned manner. Party leaders warned that if the attackers were not punished, the agitation would be intensified across West Bengal.
The protest reflects the ongoing political tensions in the state between the ruling party and the opposition. BJP leaders demanded immediate action against those responsible for the attack on their leader. The blockade and violence during the protest caused inconvenience to commuters and affected normal traffic flow on key routes in Kolkata.
