A joint operation by the Narcotics Department (DD), Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, and Nagerbazar Police Station led to the seizure of 53.50 kilograms of ganja from a suspicious vehicle near the water tank on Nayapatti Road on August 6. The raid was conducted following specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal transportation of narcotic substances in the area.
Police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, during which they recovered the consignment of ganja, allegedly being transported for distribution. Two individuals were apprehended at the scene—Subrata De, aged 60, a resident of Subhash Pally in Cooch Behar, and Surjit Biswas, aged 34, from Sanyal Char village under Chakdah Police Station in Nadia district. Both individuals were taken into custody immediately after the seizure.
According to the official statement by Police Commissioner Muralidhar Sharma, the arrested individuals confessed during preliminary questioning that they were involved in ganja transportation. The vehicle used in the transport and the recovered contraband have been seized. The case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act with Case No. 172/25 at Nagerbazar Police Station.
Police have stated that all legal formalities are being followed, and the two accused have been produced before the court. A request for police remand has been made to facilitate further investigation into the source and destination of the consignment, as well as to identify others involved in the smuggling operation.
