Man critical, wife & mother-in-law dead as family consumes poison over mounting debt in Rajarhat

A family of three allegedly consumed poison at their rented home in the Devi Park area of Rajarhat’s Narayanpur locality due to severe financial distress. According to available information, Sanjay Dey, his wife, and his mother-in-law attempted suicide together. They were rushed to the hospital, where Sanjay Dey’s wife and mother-in-law were declared dead. Dey remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.

Sanjay Dey had reportedly been struggling with substantial debt. To manage the financial pressure, he had already sold his house and vehicle. Despite this, a significant amount of money was yet to be repaid. The family was allegedly facing increasing mental stress due to unpaid dues. They are believed to have consumed poison inside their residence in a collective attempt to end their lives.

Police sources confirmed that the Dey family had borrowed money from several individuals, and a portion of the debt remained unsettled. Investigators are currently looking into the background of the financial transactions and have registered a case of unnatural death. Statements from local residents and individuals known to the family are being collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
