The Election Commission has ordered strict action against five officials in West Bengal over allegations of voter list manipulation. The officials are accused of adding non-existent voters to the electoral rolls in three assembly constituencies. The Commission directed the state chief secretary to file an FIR against them and submit a detailed report by 3 pm on Monday.
Following the order, AERO Sudipta Das of Moyna Assembly constituency and data entry operator Surjeet Haldar of Baruipur East have been removed from all election-related work. The chief secretary informed the Commission of these steps while confirming the ongoing probe into the role of three other officials — ERO Debattam Dutta Choudhury and ERO Tathagata Mandal of Baruipur East, and ERO Biplab Sarkar of Moyna.
The state administration has initiated an interim inquiry into the case and is reviewing the matter in detail. The Election Commission is closely monitoring the investigation to ensure accountability in the electoral process.
