Beldanga police have made a significant arms recovery with the arrest of an alleged weapons dealer on Monday night. The operation took place near B.Ed College on Kalitala-Fatepur road in the Beldanga police station area.
The accused, identified as Nausad Mandal from South Garibpur in Domkal police station limits, was intercepted during a search operation. Police recovered six one-shot rifles, two muskets and 14 rounds of bullets from his bag. Officials said Mandal had come to supply the weapons to a contact in Beldanga.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team moved swiftly to apprehend him and seize the weapons. The arrested man was produced in the ACJM Court in Brahmapur on Tuesday.
Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the arms and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain.
