Two men have been arrested in connection with the vandalism at Howrah Mallick Gate during the Nabanna Abhiyan agitation. Howrah Police detained the accused, identified as Abhik Kumar Mandal and Manoranjan Ghosh, from Asansol and brought them to Howrah for legal proceedings.
The arrests are linked to an incident on Saturday when protesters, participating in the Nabanna Abhiyan, allegedly broke through a barricade erected at Mallick Gate. The act was captured on video and circulated widely.
Police said both men were directly involved in the vandalism and had been absconding since the day of the agitation. They were produced in court today for further legal action.
Investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend others who participated in the damage to public property during the protest.
