The family of a victim in the RG Kar victim has accused police of assault during a peaceful rally linked to the Navanna Abhiyan. In an e-mail to Shakespeare Sarani police station on Tuesday, they claimed the incident took place last Saturday.
According to the complaint, the family was participating in a peaceful march when several policemen allegedly attacked them without provocation. They said the victim’s mother narrowly escaped death in the chaos.
The allegations add a new layer of controversy to the ongoing tensions surrounding the Navanna Abhiyan and the RG scandal, with questions now being raised over police conduct during protests.
