Kolkata’s Cyber Thana Police have arrested a youth from Tiljala in connection with an alleged international cyber fraud case. The accused, identified as Mohammad Mahfooz Ansari, was taken into custody during a late-night raid on the third floor of Globe Building around 2 am on August 14.
During the operation, police recovered a mobile phone and a bundle of photocopied documents from the accused. These included VoIP call records, contact details of suspected money managers, multiple cryptocurrency wallets, domain addresses with passwords, portal links, user IDs, lists of foreign contacts, and objectionable WhatsApp chats and Facebook group details.
Investigators suspect that the accused is part of a larger network engaged in cyber fraud, cryptocurrency transactions, and running fake call centres. Technical analysis of the seized material is underway, and police are continuing to interrogate Ansari to identify other members of the racket.
Authorities say the evidence recovered could provide vital leads in dismantling what appears to be a coordinated, transnational cybercrime operation.
