A suspected LPG cylinder blast on Friday morning in Chinnayanpalya, Wilson Garden, Central Bengaluru, killed eight-year-old Mubarak and injured six others, police said. The explosion caused Kasturamma’s residence to collapse, while shockwaves damaged surrounding homes.
Those injured include Kasturamma (35), Sarasamma (50), Shabeerana Banu (35), Subramani (62), Sheikh Najeed Ullah (37), and eight-year-old Fatima. Kasturamma’s daughter, Kayal (8), is undergoing treatment for burns at Victoria Hospital, while other victims were admitted to Sanjay Gandhi and Jayanagar hospitals.
Police from Adugodi limits who inspected the site suspect an LPG cylinder blast. “The intensity of the explosion brought down walls and roofs, damaging more than eight houses in the vicinity,” an officer said. Residents noted the sound and impact of the blast were unusually severe. Forensic teams have been called to collect debris samples for investigation.
The Fire Department reported that the blast caused significant structural damage, including the collapse of walls and roofs in at least eight homes. Shockwaves affected over ten nearby houses. Two fire tenders were dispatched within minutes, and rescue operations involved personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, local police, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarah Fathima and senior officers visited the site to oversee rescue and relief efforts. Authorities have cordoned off the area and are inspecting nearby buildings for safety. Preliminary investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the blast, while victims remain under medical care.
