A man was publicly beaten and humiliated in Kolkata after he allegedly attempted to molest a woman. The incident, which took place in the Rabindrapalli area of Kestopur, saw the woman, a local shop employee, fight back against her attacker. The commotion drew the attention of angry residents, who surrounded the accused, shouting "hit her more, hit her more," as the woman slapped him repeatedly in a moment of public retribution.
The incident unfolded at a chimney and washing machine shop in Rabindrapalli, where the victim works. According to her account, she had called a person to help dispose of some broken items from the shop. To give the man the items, she led him to the alley behind the establishment, a seemingly routine action that quickly turned into a terrifying ordeal.
The victim alleges that as soon as they were out of sight, the man grabbed her from behind, completely taking her by surprise. Shocked and frightened, she immediately struggled to push him away and began screaming in panic. Her cries for help were heard by residents, who rushed to the scene to rescue her from the assault.
Upon discovering the alleged molestation attempt, the residents were filled with rage. They quickly surrounded the accused, preventing him from escaping. While the victim herself began to hit the man, the angry crowd also joined in, beating the accused in a display of collective anger and justice. The scene quickly escalated into a public spectacle of retribution against the alleged molester.
The situation was eventually brought under control with the arrival of the police from the Baguiati police station. They intervened to stop the public beating and took the accused into custody. According to police sources, the accused is a resident of Rajarhat, a nearby locality, and an investigation into the matter is now underway.
