Police arrest 25 people after violent clash in Topsia; bombs, stones hurled

A bitter feud between two factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) turned violent in the Topsia area on Sunday, leaving the locality in a state of chaos. The dispute, reportedly over occupying the area, escalated into bombings and stone pelting, causing fear and panic among residents. The immediate and heavy police response helped contain the situation, but not before several people were injured in the clash.

The conflict reportedly began when two rival TMC groups confronted each other over control of the area. The dispute quickly turned ugly as both sides resorted to violence. According to residents and police sources, the warring groups used stones from nearby railway tracks and allegedly threw bombs at each other, creating a chaotic and dangerous situation that left the community shaken.

Police were alerted to the violence and immediately rushed to the scene to try and bring the situation under control. The police managed to contain the most intense parts of the fighting, but the skirmish resulted in injuries to several people caught in the crossfire. The sudden commotion, accompanied by the sound of explosions, created a terrifying atmosphere for the residents of Topsia.

Two individuals, Fatema Khatun and Mohammad Rohit, were injured in the conflict and were immediately taken to the National Medical College for treatment. It is not yet clear whether the two injured individuals were active members of the rival groups or if they were ordinary residents who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed at the Topsia Police Station. Police have launched a full investigation, and one of their key priorities is to verify the locals' claims that bombs were used in the clash, in addition to the visible stone pelting. In a swift response, police have already arrested 25 suspects involved in the incident and are interrogating them to determine the full extent of the conspiracy.

Although no new violence was reported on Monday, the area remains on high alert. The mood in Topsia is described as a tense silence, like the calm before a storm. In response, a significant number of police personnel have been deployed since morning to prevent any fresh clashes and maintain law and order, ensuring that residents feel secure despite the underlying tensions.
