HC refuses to order Sonam Wangchuk's discharge, says Govt intervention 'not arbitrary'
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for several districts of West Bengal due to a deep low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The alert covers Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, East Bardhaman, Murshidabad, and Nadia, warning of light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds at 30–40 km/h until Friday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, and Bankura districts are expected to receive intermittent rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. South 24 Parganas could see heavy rainfall on Thursday, while East Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, and East Medinipur are likely to experience heavy rain on Friday.
North Bengal will also face unstable weather conditions. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are expected to have rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday. Rain intensity is expected to increase from Wednesday, with heavy rainfall likely in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on Thursday and Friday. Rainfall is forecasted to decrease on Saturday and Sunday.
Due to rough seas, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the northern Bay of Bengal and West Bengal’s coastal areas until August 22. Kolkata is expected to experience light to moderate rain with isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents to follow official weather advisories.
