"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A 55-year-old man allegedly killed his 58-year-old wife after a quarrel at their residence in Konnagar’s Masterpara area of Hooghly district. Police identified the accused as Ashok Chatterjee, a former employee of Konnagar Municipality. His wife, Savita Chatterjee, was reportedly strangled on Tuesday night following an altercation between the two.
After the incident, Ashok stayed in the house through the night. The following morning, he locked the main door and left. He first went to his elder sister’s house, where he bowed down to her. He then met some relatives and informed them that he had killed his wife. He also telephoned a distant relative to convey the same before heading to the police station, where he surrendered.
Relatives including his sister Chandana Chatterjee, younger brother Sahid Chatterjee, and aunt Leena Chatterjee stated that the elderly couple argued on a daily basis. They added that the two had a fierce quarrel on Tuesday, after which the killing occurred. Police have taken Ashok into custody and started further investigation.
