No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A 15-year-old Class 10 student was stabbed to death outside the Seventh Day Adventist School in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The accused, a Class 9 student, allegedly attacked the victim following a minor altercation that had occurred a week earlier. The victim was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3 am on Wednesday.
Following the incident, a mob gathered at the school on Wednesday morning, vandalising the premises and assaulting teachers and staff. The protests intensified as members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal joined, while police managed to bring the situation under control around 2 pm after senior officials and local politicians urged calm.
Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore confirmed that the primary accused has been detained. Another juvenile is being questioned as part of the investigation. “The accused was detained following the incident,” Rathore said. CCTV footage is under review, and the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch for further investigation.
Parents of students at the school have raised concerns over repeated incidents of misconduct, including bullying, obscene behaviour, carrying knives, and inappropriate use of computers. “Two of my daughters study in this school. This is not just today’s incident,” a parent said, alleging repeated complaints to the school were ignored or inadequately addressed.
The District Education Officer has issued a notice to the school management seeking explanations for security lapses, handling of the injured student, and overall campus safety. Education Minister Praful Pansheriya urged people to maintain peace, saying, “A Class 9 student murdered a Class 10 student at Seventh Day school in Ahmedabad, which is an unfortunate incident and a red signal for a civilised society.” Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the attack.
