No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Burrabazar’s Nandarām Market, which came into the spotlight 17 years ago due to a major fire, is currently facing renewed attention as residents report that a massive generator has been placed on the footpath for over 15 years, causing significant inconvenience to pedestrians and daily visitors. In addition, an electricity transformer installed on the same footpath has further restricted movement and created difficulties for local shopkeepers and hawkers. Councillor Mahesh Sharma has lodged a formal complaint with the municipal corporation regarding the obstruction. So far, hawkers have observed the footpath situation, and building owners are now reportedly taking steps to address the generator and transformer placement. The municipal corporation has begun monitoring the site and assessing potential action to restore public access.
