Nandan Nagar resident Nirupam Pal, a painting teacher, was assaulted on his way home after attending a function. According to information, Pal confronted a group of young men and women who were allegedly consuming alcohol openly on the roadside.
His objection led to an altercation, during which the youths pushed him to the ground and attacked him. Sources said the attackers also threatened to kill Pal while continuing the assault. The incident came to an end when local residents reached the spot, at which point the accused youths and women fled.
Pal sustained injuries in the attack, and his family members have reported that the incident has left them distressed. A written complaint has been lodged at Belgharia Police Station. Police have started an investigation into the incident and confirmed that efforts are on to trace and identify those involved in the assault.
