Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A government employee from Maharashtra’s Hingoli district lost ₹1.9 lakh after falling prey to a WhatsApp wedding invitation scam.
The victim received a message from an unknown number carrying what appeared to be a wedding card for August 30. The file, disguised as a PDF, was actually a malicious APK that allowed cybercriminals to access the victim’s phone.
Once the employee clicked on the file, the attackers gained control of sensitive data and siphoned off ₹1,90,000 from his account. Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Hingoli police station and with the cyber cell.
Authorities have noted that similar scams had surfaced last year, where APK files disguised as invitations enabled fraudsters to monitor victims’ activities and steal money.
