Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri was sealed after a grieving father carried the body of his newborn child in a bag to the District Magistrate’s office, alleging negligence and extortion by the hospital.
Vipin Gupta, the father, said he admitted his wife for delivery after being told a normal birth would cost ₹10,000 and a C-section ₹12,000. As labour progressed, he alleged, the hospital kept increasing charges and demanded full payment before proceeding.
Gupta claimed he arranged money late at night but was still asked for more, leading to delays. He said his newborn died during this time and that his wife was forced out of the hospital after the tragedy.
Following the incident, District Magistrate Shailendra Singh ordered the sealing of Goldar Hospital and announced that admitted patients would be shifted to government facilities. Officials have assured the family of support and directed hospitals to ensure proper care for expectant mothers.
