"Nothing has made me prouder”: Sergio Gor on being Trump’s pick for US ambassador to India

Donald Trump has nominated his close aide Sergio Gor as the next United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. The announcement was made by Trump on social media, where he described Gor as a “great friend” who had been by his side for years.

Sergio Gor, 38, currently serves as Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House. Reacting to the nomination, he said he was “beyond grateful” for the opportunity, calling it the “honour of my life” to represent the United States. Born in Uzbekistan and later moving to Malta as a child, Gor studied in the US and went on to play a prominent role in Republican politics.

Trump praised Gor for his work in hiring thousands of “America First Patriots” across federal agencies and for helping drive his presidential campaigns and book publications. He said Gor’s appointment was crucial for managing ties with the world’s most populous region.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio both endorsed the nomination, describing Gor as a hardworking and capable leader who would strengthen the US-India relationship. The development comes even as Trump recently imposed a 50 per cent tariff on India, including penalties on Russian oil imports.
