Security forces foiled an illegal border crossing on Saturday night, arresting a senior Bangladesh police officer at the India-Bangladesh frontier. The accused has been identified as Arifur Zaman, who was serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Bangladesh.
According to officials, Zaman is a resident of Nehal hilly area in Bangladesh. He was intercepted while attempting to cross into India through the Bithari border under Swarupnagar police station in North 24 Parganas district. BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement and apprehended him immediately.
Following his detention, Zaman was handed over to Swarupnagar police for further investigation. The incident has raised serious concerns about security and intelligence gaps along the sensitive border region.
