A major accident occurred in Kolkata’s Maniktala area on Monday when a mini-bus went out of control after its brakes reportedly failed. The vehicle rammed into five vehicles ahead, including parked and moving cars, leading to multiple injuries and creating commotion in the busy locality.
Eyewitnesses said the mini-bus first hit a private car before colliding with several others in succession. One car involved in the accident was pushed onto the footpath by the force of the impact. People present in the area rushed to safety as the vehicles were struck in sequence.
Several injured individuals were taken to Maniktala ESI Hospital with the help of locals and police. Hospital sources confirmed that most of the injured were stable, though some sustained serious injuries and are under treatment. The exact number of those injured has not been officially released.
Police personnel from Maniktala station arrived at the site soon after the incident. The mini-bus was seized, and the driver was taken into custody. Preliminary findings suggest a brake failure, but the police are investigating further to determine the cause of the accident.
