A passenger bus travelling from Krishnanagar to Kolkata collided with a stationary lorry on National Highway 12 near Shantipur Bypass in Nadia district on Monday morning. The front portion of the bus was severely damaged in the crash. Police confirmed that 25 passengers sustained injuries, of which about 12 are in critical condition.
The accident occurred near a B.Ed college on the highway. Locals and emergency responders assisted in shifting the injured passengers to medical facilities. Several victims were admitted to Shantipur State General Hospital, while others requiring further treatment were taken to hospitals in Krishnanagar and Ranaghat. Doctors are monitoring the condition of those critically injured.
Following the accident, Shantipur traffic police and local police reached the spot. The vehicles involved in the collision were removed, and traffic on the highway was restored. Police have initiated a probe into the incident and further investigation is underway.
