No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
West Bengal government's Food Distribution Department has issued a strong directive: no one should be denied their entitled ration, even if they face issues with their E-Aadhar or ration card. This humanitarian decision comes in response to numerous complaints where valid recipients were turned away from ration shops because of biometric authentication failures, such as unreadable fingerprints or iris scans. The state government has now taken a firm stand to protect the rights of its citizens, ensuring that technical glitches do not become a barrier to basic sustenance.
Following the receipt of these complaints, the government has swiftly ordered all district magistrates to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. This directive mandates them to visit ration shops and personally verify the issues being faced by the public. This proactive approach aims to identify the root cause of the problem and ensure that every eligible person receives their ration without any hindrance. The government is not taking these issues lightly and is pushing for accountability at every level of the distribution chain.
The district magistrates have been given a strict deadline of August 31st to submit a detailed report. This report must include the exact number of individuals who have been denied ration due to Aadhar-related problems in their respective areas. Furthermore, the report is required to specify if any rationing officer or dealer is complicit in this wrongful denial of service. The government has made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for depriving citizens of their rightful ration.
Although the department's data suggests that 98% of customers currently receive their ration smoothly through biometric methods, the new order targets the remaining small percentage of people who are still facing difficulties. The government's goal is to achieve 100% distribution without any exclusion.
