Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), accusing the ruling coalition of attempting to "destroy democracy and the Constitution." Speaking during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, Tejashwi redefined the NDA acronym to mean "Nahi Denge Adhikar," which translates to "Will not give rights." This strong statement comes as the opposition INDIA bloc intensifies its campaign to protect citizens' voting rights ahead of upcoming elections.
Tejashwi Yadav's criticism is primarily focused on what he claims is an ongoing "conspiracy" to manipulate electoral rolls. He alleged that the names of a significant number of eligible voters, particularly from poor and backward communities, are being deliberately deleted from the lists under the guise of an intensive revision process. According to him, the Election Commission's credibility has been eroded due to these controversies. He asserted that the INDIA bloc has proof that at least 50 living voters' names have been deleted from each booth on the grounds that they are dead.
The RJD leader’s remarks are part of a broader, coordinated effort by the INDIA bloc to mobilize public opinion against the BJP. The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra,' which he is leading alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, is a central part of this strategy. The yatra aims to raise awareness among the masses about what the opposition calls "vote theft" and the alleged misuse of institutions by the government. Tejashwi emphasized that Bihar, a land with a rich history of democracy, will not allow such an attack on its democratic principles.
Echoing Rahul Gandhi’s previous accusations, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the BJP is indulging in stealing the votes of the poor and the deprived. He pointed out the disparity between the Prime Minister's public statements about the Election Commission working to drive away "infiltrators" and the EC's own affidavit to the Supreme Court, which did not mention this issue. This, he argued, highlights the alleged disconnect and collusion between the government and the constitutional body.
