Shreya Verma, 27, a resident of Punjab, was found dead late Monday night at a guest house in Anandapur, Kolkata. Police officials said she had recently arrived in the city and was staying at the guest house in Anandapur. Initial reports suggest that her death may be linked to heavy alcohol consumption.
According to police sources, Shreya was in the room with her male companion, Mohammad Chand, on Monday night. Both reportedly consumed alcohol late into the night. She was found unconscious the following Tuesday morning, after which Mohammad Chand took her to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Anandapur police visited the guest house after receiving information about the incident and have launched a formal investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the death, collecting evidence, and questioning witnesses to determine the exact cause.
