Diamond Harbour police have arrested five members of a gang involved in defrauding locals and businessmen by posing as CBI and ED officers. The arrests followed a raid in Ward No. 14, where the gang operated an office under the name “Special Retail Crime Information (SICI).” Police seized fake identity cards, official-looking documents, and other objectionable materials from the premises.
Police investigations revealed that the gang had been operating in Diamond Harbour for an extended period, using threats and intimidation to extort money from victims. Their operations were reportedly organized with a pattern similar to the Hindi film Special 26. The gang’s leader, Falghuni Chatterjee, was arrested from Kolkata, while the remaining four accused—Sujahuddin Sheikh, Gopal Barik, Mostakin Molla, and Jamal Haldar—were detained locally.
Authorities confirmed that at least 10–11 people have fallen victim to the gang’s activities. Police are continuing their investigation to identify additional victims and trace the gang’s wider network. Residents have been advised to verify official credentials and report any suspicious activity immediately.
