Samuel Biswas, 63, a resident of Halishahar in North 24 Parganas, has been arrested for committing over 100 thefts and robberies across Kolkata, Howrah, and North 24 Parganas. The accused admitted to the crimes, stating that he was sometimes released after being beaten by local residents. Police investigations revealed that he targeted multiple locations across these districts over several years.
The arrest followed the analysis of CCTV footage showing the theft of ₹15,000 from a bag hanging in a former police officer’s car. Multiple police stations were involved in tracking him, including three from North 24 Parganas, seven to eight from Howrah, and several from Kolkata. Authorities confirmed that Samuel used trains daily to travel from Halishahar to Howrah, commit thefts, and return to his residence.
Police stated that the accused frequently evaded capture due to his age, while local residents often intervened when he was caught. During confrontations, he would plead, citing his wife’s illness. Investigations are ongoing to recover stolen property and determine the full scope of his criminal activities, while authorities continue to monitor his known locations and travel routes.
