No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
In Digha, tourists will now have access to easier and safer transport options with the launch of the Yatri Sathi mobile application. The initiative was introduced by East Midnapore Superintendent of Police Soumyadeep Bhattacharya, making it the first government-backed cab booking service in the country. The app enables visitors to book vehicles with a single click, operating 24 hours a day, without the risk of being overcharged or facing travel inconvenience.
To oversee the service in Digha, five special motorbikes have been deployed for constant monitoring. Authorities confirmed that yellow taxis will also be brought into wider use under this initiative. The app has been developed to streamline local transport services, provide affordable rides, and create a regulated booking mechanism for tourists.
According to Superintendent Bhattacharya, the number of tourists in Digha has risen sharply since the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple, which has also led to heavier traffic congestion. He stated that the new service was introduced to manage traffic more effectively and curb instances of illegal fare collection, while ensuring safe, dependable, and cost-effective travel for all visitors.
