Man slits another youth's throat after fight in Liluah, arrested

A heroic act of intervention turned into a tragedy in Howrah's Liluah last night when a young man was brutally murdered while attempting to save another person from being beaten. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Souvik Dutta, was killed by having his throat slit following a heated argument with the attacker. The shocking incident took place near a Ganesh Puja event in Patuapara and has left the local community in a state of shock and disbelief.

The incident unfolded late at night at a Ganesh Puja celebration organized by the Children and Youth Society Club. As the festivities were winding down and the club members were eating, Souvik noticed a man, later identified as Amit Roychowdhury, assaulting a young boy. Driven by a sense of justice, Souvik immediately ran to the boy’s aid, attempting to stop the assault.

His intervention led to a fierce argument between him and the attacker, Amit Roychowdhury. According to witnesses, the verbal altercation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. Allegedly, during the argument, Amit pulled out a knife he was carrying and brutally attacked Souvik. The knife attack was fatal, as Souvik’s throat was cut, causing him to collapse on the spot in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to TL Jaiswal Hospital in a critical condition, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The gruesome nature of the attack has sent shockwaves through the community, which remembered Souvik as a brave young man. His family is yet to be informed of his tragic death, as his mother and brother were at home at the time of the incident.

After being alerted, police from the Liluah police station swiftly arrived at the scene. They were able to quickly apprehend the accused, Amit Roychowdhury, and also recovered the bloody knife used in the crime. The police have registered a murder case and have initiated a full investigation into the matter. The accused is set to be produced before the Howrah court today.
