Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha, arrested in connection with the teacher recruitment scam, on Saturday said that he did not attempt to destroy evidence. Before being produced at Bankshall Court, he stated that his mobile phone had not been thrown away but had slipped from his hand. Saha said, “I didn’t throw the mobile, it slipped from my hand. I neither tried to run away nor to destroy evidence.”
The Enforcement Directorate has accused Saha of attempting to conceal and destroy his mobile phone, which investigators claim contains important information linked to the recruitment irregularities. The agency had arrested him from Murshidabad district’s Burtra constituency in connection with the ongoing investigation.
On Saturday, he was taken from the CGO Complex to Bankshall Court under custody. The Enforcement Directorate is expected to seek an extension of his custody, while Saha’s legal team is likely to move a bail application. The developments have added another chapter to the ongoing proceedings in the recruitment case.
