WBSSC announces 8,477 non-teaching vacancies for Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ open till Oct 31

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has announced a large-scale recruitment drive for non-teaching positions after seven years. The commission stated that a total of 8,477 vacancies will be filled this year, including 2,989 posts under Group ‘C’ for librarians and clerks, and 5,488 posts under Group ‘D’ for support staff in government and government-aided high and higher secondary schools.

The detailed notification is scheduled for release on August 31, 2025. Online applications will open on September 16 and close on October 31, 2025. Candidates are required to submit their applications exclusively through the official WBSSC portal. This recruitment is aimed at addressing the shortage of non-teaching staff in schools across the state.

Eligibility criteria specify that candidates for the librarian post must hold a bachelor’s degree in arts, science, or commerce. Applicants for the clerk post must have passed secondary education or its equivalent. Group ‘D’ candidates must have completed the eighth grade from a recognized school. The maximum age limit for all categories is 40 years.

The recruitment process will include a written examination followed by an interview. Group ‘C’ candidates will face 60 questions covering general knowledge, current affairs, arithmetic, and general English. Group ‘D’ candidates will answer 45 questions on general knowledge, current affairs, and arithmetic. The duration of both examinations will be one hour.

Selected candidates will receive monthly salaries ranging from ₹22,700 to ₹26,000 for Group ‘C’ posts and ₹20,050 for Group ‘D’ posts. This recruitment comes after a long gap in the state, offering opportunities to millions of aspirants. The commission has emphasized that candidates must meet the prescribed educational and age criteria to be eligible for the selection process.
