No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for her alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, police officials confirmed on Sunday. The case was lodged at Mana police station based on a complaint filed by local resident Gopal Samanto.
According to police, the FIR has been registered under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between groups) and 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complainant stated that Moitra’s comments were objectionable, unconstitutional, and could potentially create unrest. He also mentioned that refugees from Bangladesh had been living in the Mana Camp area of Raipur since 1971, and the remarks had created fear among them.
Moitra allegedly said in Nadia district, West Bengal, on Thursday that if Amit Shah failed to stop infiltration from Bangladesh, “the first thing you should do is cut Amit Shah’s head and put it on your table.” The authenticity of the video where the remarks surfaced has not been confirmed.
The remarks drew sharp criticism from several BJP leaders, including Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who demanded strict action against the TMC parliamentarian. Moitra, meanwhile, has accused the Union government of failing to secure India’s borders and not fulfilling its responsibilities on infiltration issues.
