A late-night brawl in Salt Lake’s CF Block turned violent when a group of drunken youths and a woman allegedly insulted and threatened a Kolkata Police officer before attacking other policemen. The incident occurred between 12.30 and 1 am on Sunday.
According to reports, Battala police station OC Suvarna Dutta Chaudhary was dining with his family at a dhaba in CF Block when a nearby group of young men and women began shouting loudly. When the officer objected, the group allegedly made objectionable remarks against him and issued threats.
As the situation escalated, police from North Bidhannagar police station intervened and detained five people, including a woman. However, while being taken into custody, the accused allegedly assaulted two sub-inspectors, further worsening the incident.
On Monday, the arrested individuals were produced before the Bidhannagar Magistrate Court. The case has raised concerns about increasing instances of drunken violence and disrespect towards law enforcement in public places.
