Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A woman was shot dead by her estranged husband in a busy market in Gorakhpur on Wednesday evening, triggering shock and panic in the area. Police arrested the accused soon after the crime and are interrogating him.
The incident took place around 8 pm when Mamta alias Mukti Chauhan, 30, went to a photo studio in the market. Her husband, identified as Vishwakarma, was waiting outside on a motorcycle. As Mamta stepped out, an argument broke out between them over a long-standing property dispute. In the heat of the moment, Vishwakarma pulled out a pistol and fired two shots.
One bullet struck Mamta in the chest while the other hit her hand, causing her to collapse on the spot. Bystanders rushed her to a private hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police confirmed that the couple had been living separately for over a year, and had a 13-year-old daughter who stayed with Mamta.
The accused attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by the police. “An investigation is underway, and the accused is in custody,” Shahpur SHO Neeraj Rai said. Authorities are probing the circumstances that led to the crime.
