"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Student unrest broke out at Gour Banga University on Monday as hundreds gathered to protest against what they called arbitrary and excessive admission fees. The agitation began with students locking the main gate of the campus, effectively halting normal operations.
Students said they had repeatedly raised concerns with the university administration about fee reductions but were only given empty assurances. “We have complained several times, but nothing has changed. Instead of listening to us, the administration is trying to silence the movement,” a protester alleged.
According to the agitating group, attempts are being made to intimidate them through pressure tactics to weaken the movement. They accused the administration of fostering a ‘threat culture’ inside the university.
The protestors have issued a clear warning that if their demands are not met soon, they will intensify their agitation. The stand-off has created a tense atmosphere on campus, with students and administration now locked in a standoff over fee reforms.
