Delhi HC restrains misuse of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s name, image and voice without consent

The Delhi high court has granted relief to Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan by restraining unauthorised use of her name, image, and voice for commercial purposes. The order came on Thursday in response to her petition seeking protection of her personality and publicity rights.

Justice Tejas Karia, in his 16-page order, directed that all infringing URLs and content be removed within 72 hours. The court observed that misuse of her persona could mislead the public into believing in false endorsements while also violating her dignity and privacy.

In her petition, Aishwarya had flagged concerns over unauthorised use of her voice, videos, and even morphed images using artificial intelligence on objectionable content. The court held that such misuse causes not only financial harm but also undermines a person’s right to live with dignity.

The matter will be heard again on January 15. The verdict follows similar rulings safeguarding the personality rights of Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and most recently Abhishek Bachchan.
