Residents of Ucchegar area near Kalyani High Road in Jagaddal woke up to panic on Saturday morning when they spotted a blood-soaked body lying on the banks of a drain. Locals immediately informed the police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Ishtiaq Qureshi alias Hira, a resident of the Manikpir area under Bhatpara police station. Police suspect that he was killed after being attacked on the head with a brick found nearby. The body has been sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Senior officer DC North Ganesh Vishwas confirmed that two men, Rashid Kaleem alias Pintu and Jhantu Mistry alias Mandal, have been detained for questioning. The investigation is underway to establish the motive behind the murder and identify others possibly involved.
The discovery of the body has created tension in the area, with police increasing presence to maintain law and order.
