More trouble for Mamata, sedition complaint filed over "controversial comment" against India
A major case of drug abuse has surfaced in the Bankra Naya Pada area of Howrah, where police recovered a large quantity of narcotics from two youths. The arrests were made after a fight broke out between three youths late last night, drawing the attention of locals.
When residents rushed to stop the scuffle, packets of drugs were found with two of the youths. Enraged locals immediately surrounded them and informed the Bankra Pharadi police station. A team arrived at the spot, took both accused into custody, and seized the contraband.
However, the incident has also triggered fresh allegations against the police. Locals accused the authorities of ignoring the rampant drug trade in the area, claiming narcotics are being sold openly without any strong action. They demanded stricter measures to curb the growing menace.
The arrested youths are now being interrogated to confirm their identities and trace the source of the drugs. Police have said further investigations are underway to identify others involved in the supply chain.
