Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A woman in Rajasthan’s Deeg district was allegedly murdered by her in-laws over her inability to bear children. The victim, identified as Sarla, was married to her husband Ashok since 2005 and lived with him and his family in Kakra village.
Police said Sarla’s in-laws attempted to burn her body inside the house to make the death appear accidental. They later tried to carry out cremation in a rush, despite being instructed not to by police. Before the last rites could be performed, a team from Khoh police station intervened and recovered the body, which was found in a half-burnt condition.
Sarla’s family, who reached Deeg Hospital mortuary after the incident, accused her husband and in-laws of constant harassment and violence over her infertility. Her brother Vikrant alleged that Ashok regularly beat Sarla and that her in-laws tried to conceal the crime by faking a fire accident.
The police have taken custody of the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation. Villagers had raised suspicion after noticing inconsistencies in the family’s claims and alerted the authorities, preventing the cremation from taking place.
