Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
For the second time in just 24 hours, the Kolkata Metro's Green Line has been hit by a major disruption, this time due to a software glitch. The service between Sealdah and Esplanade was completely halted during the busy office hours on Thursday morning, causing immense inconvenience and frustration for daily commuters. The repeated failures on the newly inaugurated line have raised serious questions about its reliability and the maintenance protocols in place.
The latest problem began around 10:15 AM when a software issue was detected on the Green Line. This technical snag forced the complete suspension of services on the crucial stretch between Sealdah and Esplanade. This particular segment is vital for thousands of office-goers who rely on the metro to connect with other parts of the city.
According to metro sources, while the service was down between Sealdah and Esplanade, it continued to operate partially. Commuters could still use the metro from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade and from Sealdah to Sector Five. However, the break in the middle of the line forced passengers to deboard and find alternative transport to cover the affected stretch, leading to chaos and long queues at the stations.
The metro authorities have not yet officially disclosed the exact nature of the software problem, leaving passengers in the dark. They have stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Despite their assurances, public anger is mounting, as this is the second major disruption in a very short period.
The recent troubles began just a day earlier, on the morning of Vishwakarma Puja, when another technical glitch halted services on the Green Line for nearly three hours. The full service was restored only after a prolonged effort. The repetition of such incidents within 24 hours has passengers questioning the quality of the new line, which was inaugurated with much fanfare by the Prime Minister just last month.
