West Bengal's Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has launched a sharp attack on the BJP, accusing the party of engaging in "politics over corpses" following the deaths of several people due to electrocution in waterlogged areas. The minister stated that the heavy rainfall on Monday night was an "unprecedented disaster," and despite the tragedy of ten deaths, the BJP has chosen to attack Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee instead of showing empathy.

Bhattacharya highlighted the scale of the downpour, noting that the city received 252 millimeters of rain in just a few hours. She expressed her dismay that even in the face of such a disaster, the BJP is focusing on criticizing the Chief Minister. The minister claimed that the opposition party is using the deaths to malign Mamata Banerjee and her government for political gain, showing no genuine concern for the victims.

The minister also addressed the BJP's criticism of the Chief Minister's recent Durga Puja inauguration events. She alleged that the BJP is using the Chief Minister's festive engagements to make disparaging remarks. Bhattacharya claimed that the BJP's actions are motivated by their lack of connection to the festival and the people's celebrations, leading them to resort to such low-level attacks.

Bhattacharya's comments come in response to remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Adhikari had reportedly taken a swipe at the Chief Minister, suggesting that the citizens of Kolkata were suffering the consequences of the Chief Minister's act of wearing a hijab while inaugurating a puja. This comment has sparked a massive political row.
