A large number of BJP activists block traffic movement on Howrah Bridge, bringing it to a complete standstill to protest against the attack on MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in North Bengal. Police personnel immediately intervened to tackle the situation as several vehicles came to a screeching halt due to the protest. Agitators also clashed with cops and raised slogans against the ruling party, TMC.
Earlier in the day, the BJP supporters staged a protest at Dharmatala by burning tyres on the road. They raised slogans against Trinamool and demanded immediate action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, TMC supremo and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited the injured BJP MP at a private hospital in Siliguri. She wished him a quick recovery and also asked about his condition.
The incident-tuned political slugfest unfurled when Murmu, along with MLA Shankar Ghosh, was visiting flood-hit Nagrakata when they faced severe backlash from the locals. An angry mob was seen abusing the saffron party leaders and also throwing shoes, sticks, and stones at them. A few of them hit Murmu on his face, bursting it open. He was rushed to hospital, where he is currently admitted.
