BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A major road collapse occurred near the banks of the Ganges River in the Mahesh Nehru Nagar Colony area under Ward No. 18 of Srirampur Municipality in Hooghly, triggering panic among local residents. The sudden cave-in left a deep crater near residential zones, raising fears of further erosion along the riverbank.
Upon learning of the incident, Srirampur BJP MP Manoj Tigga visited the spot and inspected the damaged stretch. He interacted with local residents and assured that immediate measures would be taken to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, the Srirampur Municipality has initiated repair work on a war footing. Municipal workers have already started restoring the affected section, and temporary barricades have been placed to restrict traffic movement in the area. Officials have said the road will be fully repaired once the soil stability assessment is completed.
Residents have urged the authorities to take long-term preventive steps, as similar incidents have occurred in riverbank areas before due to soil erosion and poor drainage systems.
