BJP, SUCI clash with police while visiting gangrape victim at Durgapur Hospital

The situation turned volatile in Durgapur on Monday over the alleged gang rape of a medical student. The IQ City Medical College and Hospital campus witnessed chaos as protests by BJP and SUCI (Communist) party workers escalated into clashes with security personnel.

Tension began when SUCI representatives from Kolkata and Durgapur tried to meet the victim and her family but were stopped by security at the hospital gate. Protesters attempted to break through the barricades, leading to a fierce confrontation and scuffle inside the hospital premises. Police forces were immediately called in to control the situation, as panic spread among patients and hospital staff.

Both BJP and SUCI have intensified their protests, accusing the administration of shielding the accused and suppressing the case. While BJP workers blamed the state government for protecting the perpetrators, SUCI leaders alleged that police were intimidating the victim and her family. Both parties demanded immediate arrest and strict punishment for those involved.

Following the clash, additional police were deployed to maintain order. Authorities claimed the situation was under control, but fear and unrest remain high in the area.
