A heated confrontation broke out in Gwalior between police officer Hina Khan and senior lawyer Anil Mishra over a Ramayan recital at a Hanuman temple. The situation escalated when Mishra accused Khan of being anti-Sanatan Dharma, prompting the officer to respond by shouting “Jai Shri Ram,” leaving the crowd shocked.
The dispute began after Mishra and his supporters brought a tent for the religious event, which police personnel, under Khan’s supervision, stopped citing prohibitory orders. The materials were returned, and the programme was not allowed to proceed. This led Mishra and his supporters to stage a street protest, raising slogans against the administration for locking the temple.
During the exchange, Mishra accused the officer of being against Hindu beliefs. Khan retorted, “You are wrong,” and when the crowd began chanting “Jai Shri Ram,” she joined in, raising her fist and shouting the slogan herself. “If you think chanting Jai Shri Ram will put pressure on me, then you are wrong,” she asserted.
The incident has sparked a wider debate about rising religious tensions in Madhya Pradesh, with videos of the confrontation circulating widely on social media.
