FIR against wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar in the suicide case of Haryana cop Sandeep Kumar

In a chilling escalation of Haryana's police corridors, an FIR has been registered on the wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar and three others, thrusting the spotlight onto allegations of deep-rooted corruption, extortion, and a shadowy police-gangster alliance that allegedly drove Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Lather—to take his own life on October 14 near the Rohtak-Panipat highway. Kumar, a dedicated member of the cyber investigation team probing graft tied to IPS Y Puran Kumar's earlier suicide just a week prior, left behind a gut-wrenching three-page note and a video message that didn't hold back: he accused Puran Kumar's circle of bribery, sexual harassment against female officers, caste-based manipulations to install loyalists, and even a staggering Rs 50 crore deal with fugitive gangster Rao Inderjit of the Himanshu Bhau gang to whitewash a murder case. This isn't mere finger-pointing; it's a desperate plea from a man who wrote he was "sacrificing his life for an impartial investigation," highlighting how unchecked power plays can crush even the system's own guardians, with the FIR now filed at Rohtak Sadar police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act, though exact sections remain under wraps amid the probe.

The incident unfolded since September 29 when Y Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer and former IG of the Rohtak range, was abruptly bypassed to the Sunaria Police Training College. En route to Chandigarh on October 1, his personal security officer Sushil was yanked from the car by a Rohtak police squad, including Kumar, and held in what sources call illegal custody for days without a formal FIR or warrant, all while Puran desperately dialed the Haryana DGP and Rohtak SP for help that never came. Pressure mounted as Sushil faced grilling to flip against his boss, culminating in a PCA case against him on October 6 for allegedly shaking down a businessman for Rs 2.5 lakh—a charge insiders say was engineered to snare Puran indirectly. Days later, on October 7, Puran ended it all in his Chandigarh home with Sushil's service revolver, his eight-page suicide note blasting eight senior IPS officers for harassment and caste discrimination.

Enter IPS office Y Puran's wife, who flew back from Japan to file her own complaint, cooperated with the SIT by handing over his laptop for forensics (though she later fumed about botched digital fingerprinting), only to find herself named in the new FIR alongside Sushil, Bathinda Rural AAP MLA Amit Ratna, and one unidentified associate for their alleged roles in the web of wrongdoing that ensnared Sandeep. As Rohtak buzzes with outrage—families mourning, colleagues whispering about a toxic gangster ties—these back-to-back suicides scream for systemic reckoning. The FIR's veil of secrecy, with cops stonewalling details to protect the investigation, only fuels the fire. The IPS officer's wife claims of a "misrepresented" probe add layers of intrigue, but for Haryana's rank-and-file officers, this is a wake-up call that loyalty to the badge can't shield against the bullets of betrayal—internal or otherwise—demanding not just arrests, but a purge of the rot that's turned protectors into predators.
