Bloodshed at Kali Puja immersion in Hooghly's Konnagar ghat

In the heart of West Bengal's vibrant Kali Puja celebrations, what should have been a serene riverside immersion ritual but it converted into a night of sheer terror and bloodshed in Konnagar, Hooghly district. The members of a local puja committee post immersion of Goddess Kali idol at Konnagar's Sadhu Ghat has been allegedly attacked by a gang of unidentified youths with bricks and wrist bangles.

The victims was Akash Roy, the puja committee member & local BJP mandal president along with his brother Ujjwal and other family members, was brutally assaulted. Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene where women from the neighborhood rushed to shield the family, only to face blows themselves, turning a sacred ghat into a brutal street brawl. The ferocity of the attack was unrelenting, with Ujjwal Roy's eyes swollen and his body battered across multiple. The alleged inaction of nearby police triggers more devastating outcome despite CCTV cameras covers the ghat area.

The incident ignited a political firestorm, with BJP leaders vowing street protests if arrests aren't made, decrying it as a blatant hit on them during the festivities. In sharp contrast, Trinamool Congress voices dismissed the claims as opportunistic politicizing and urging a fair probe to nab the real culprits.
