BJP leader Vivekanand Prasad alias Bablu Yadav was shot in Bhagalpur’s Barari area on Friday evening while taking a walk outside his home. The attack took place near TNB Law College Lane, leaving Yadav seriously injured. Locals rushed him to Mayaganj Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
According to police, the accused, identified as Suraj Tanti of Surjikhil, arrived at the scene with his associates and fired two rounds at Yadav before fleeing. Preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier altercation involving a local fruit vendor named Dewanand, where Yadav had intervened and informed police, leading to Dewanand’s detention. Officials believe this old rivalry triggered the attack.
The entire incident was caught on CCTV, and police have seized the footage for examination. Raids are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspects. Bhagalpur DSP Ajay Kumar Chaudhary confirmed that an investigation is underway to verify all aspects of the case.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police jointly neutralised four members of Bihar’s Ranjan Pathak gang in an encounter in Rohini, Delhi. The slain gang members were wanted in several murder and robbery cases across Bihar.
