Cyclone Montha, brewing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall near Kakinada on the Andhra Pradesh coast on the evening or night of October 28. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system will strengthen into a deep depression by October 26 and develop into a cyclone by the morning of October 27.
The storm is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 90–100 kmph, with gusts up to 110 kmph during landfall. Authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea and to return to shore immediately as the weather system intensifies.
Meanwhile, a separate depression over the Eastcentral Arabian Sea is also moving northwestward and may cause heavy rainfall over Goa, Konkan, Gujarat, and Kerala in the coming days. The IMD continues to monitor both systems closely, warning of potential flooding, power disruptions, and travel interruptions along the eastern coastline.
