"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered more than 1.5 crore cash and 10 kilograms of gold from the properties of businessman Vivek Dhandhaniya from the Taratala area and his office in Laketown. This raid was part of the ongoing investigation into the Municipal Recruitment Scam.
Such was the volume of the recovered banknotes that the ED team had to deploy currency counting machines to ascertain the exact amount. The discovery of this massive sum, alongside the substantial gold find, strongly suggests fresh evidence linking large-scale money laundering to the high-profile municipal corruption case.
The agency's latest action began on Tuesday morning as the ED went into 'action mode,' conducting simultaneous searches at multiple locations, including Beleghata and other parts of the city. Investigators reportedly obtained new intelligence in the municipal recruitment case, which brought several corporate entities under their radar.
